HUF SPRING 2021 COLLECTION
For the Spring 2021 collection, HUF looks to the 1997 TransWorld skate video ‘Interface’ for inspiration. Featuring a section with HUF founder Keith Hufnagel and friends in New York, the video is mixed with late-90s computer themed montages, digital fonts, inverted graphics and desktop icons. The video released at the dawn of the year 2000, when computers in every household became the norm and the Y2K computer bug was predicted to cause havoc on the world.
Throughout the Spring collection, the ‘Interface’ theme can be seen by infusing a core-based color palette with artificial tones. Cut-and-sew pieces incorporate technical trims, color blocking, and graphic-heavy seasonal patterns that feature digitized and inverted florals, and computer generated 3D art. Classic HUF logos receive millennium-era inspired graphic treatments with nods to late-90s and early-2000s pop culture, while references to the Y2K hysteria can be found throughout the collection’s printables.
‘Interface’ is not only a classic skate video, but also serves as a reminder to a distinctly different, digitized time. Dial up some HUF computer nostalgia this Spring.
